Marlene R. Krauss, M.D., Managing Director

Dr. Krauss co-founded KBL Healthcare, Inc. in 1991. She has over 10 years clinical experience as a physician and over 27 years experience in healthcare-focused public and private equity investing. She is a board-certified ophthalmologist with a specialty in vitreo-retinal surgery. From 1979 to 1986, she completed her clinical training at the Beth Israel Hospital in Boston, the Harvard Surgical Service at the Deaconess Hospital, the Mount Sinai Hospital in New York and New York Hospital. From 1986 to 1989, she was a clinical instructor in Ophthalmology at Cornell Medical College and was engaged in the private practice of ophthalmology.

Dr. Krauss co-founded and was Chairperson and CEO of KBL Healthcare Acquisition Corporation and Vice Chairperson of the Board of Concord Health Group Inc. She also co-founded and was until September 1997 Chairperson of the Board of Cambridge Heart, Inc. In 1999, she co-founded Lumenos, Inc. and serves on its board. She previously served on the Ventures Advisory Committee of the Brigham and Women's Hospital. She is a director of the Associates of Harvard Business School and the recipient of the 1996 Harvard Business School Alumni Achievement Award. She was the second female MBA graduate to have won this prestigious award, which has been granted since 1968. She is also a founding member of the President's Council of Cornell Women and the Harvard Business School Women's Association.

Dr. Krauss received a B.A. degree from Cornell University, College of Arts and Sciences, an M.B.A. degree from Harvard Business School, and an M.D. degree from Harvard Medical School.

Zachary C. Berk, O.D., Managing Director

Dr. Berk co-founded KBL Healthcare, Inc. in 1991. He has over 16 years clinical experience as an optometrist and over 13 years experience in healthcare-focused public and private equity investing. From 1974 to 1986, he maintained a private optometry practice and served in management positions for several retail optical companies.

Dr. Berk co-founded and served as Vice President and Director of KBL Healthcare Acquisition Corporation and as a director of Concord Health Group, Inc. He is also a co-founder and was a director of Cambridge Heart, Inc. In 1999, he co-founded Lumenos, Inc. and serves as Vice-Chairman of its board. He is also a director of the Associates of Harvard Business School.

Dr. Berk earned a B.S. and a Doctorate of Optometry from Pacific University.

Michael D. Kaswan Managing Director

Mr. Kaswan joined KBL in 1997. He is an active participant in its management, including sourcing, leading and monitoring several of the firmís investments throughout all sectors of healthcare. He was heavily involved in structuring and raising KBLís first institutional fund and building the core investment and administrative team. In addition, he conceived, wrote the business plan for and is a co- founder of Lumenos, Inc., one of the leaders in the emerging field of consumer driven healthcare and a KBL portfolio company. He currently serves on the board of directors of Scandius BioMedical and Remon Medical Technologies and is a board observer on several other KBL companies. Previously, Mr. Kaswan served as in a variety of operating and financial management roles at APM, a leading healthcare consulting firm (now part of CSC Index) and GE Capital.

Mr. Kaswan earned a B.S. degree in Finance from the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia and an M.B.A. with distinction from Harvard Business School.
